Czech sports fans clashed with police in Prague following a rally to protest new anti-coronavirus measures. More than 2,000 football and ice hockey fans gathered on October 18 to demonstrate against a two-week ban on all sporting events that goes into effect the following day. The ban excludes international competitions. The demonstrators threw bottles and other items at riot police, who later dispersed the protesters from a central square with smoke bombs, fireworks, and water cannon. Several people were injured, including officers. The large-scale demonstration, which last about an hour, broke the state’s anti-virus ban on gatherings larger than 500 people, the police said.
