Iranian officials say 37 people have been confirmed dead and hundreds injured in the past week in flooding set off by heavy rains. Eighteen of the deaths took place in Shiraz, the capital of Fars Province. The semiofficial Tasnim news agency quotes Iranian President Hassan Rohani as saying the floods have affected 25 of Iran's 31 provinces, and that the scale of the disaster had overwhelmed emergency services in some areas.
