The United States has defeated France to take the gold medal in men’s basketball at the Tokyo Olympic Games. Kevin Durant scored 29 points to lead the team to an 87-82 victory on August 7 after the heavily favored team got off to a slow start. The United States has now won the last four Olympic golds in the event and seven of the last eight. It was the first time France had reached the final since 2000. France had earlier defeated the United States in their opening group match.
