Arys city and military warehouse: before and after the explosion. The explosion happened at a military warehouse 200 meters from the town of Arys. According to the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan, about 90 tons of artillery ammunition burned at the warehouse. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

According to the Kazakh Ministry of Defense, about 70 percent of the military warehouse in Arys has been destroyed. There were at least 40 to 50 explosions in the warehouse.

According to the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan, the Arms Storage Base at Arys has been used since the sixties. According to the Deputy Defense Minister Timur Dandybaev, "In the arsenal of rockets there are rocket-artillery weapons, engineering ammunition, partons, grenades, anti-tank missiles, missiles. There was no radiation weapon in the warehouse."
