Israeli warplanes unleashed a series of heavy air strikes at several locations of Gaza City on May 17 despite calls for an end to the violence after the deadliest day since fighting erupted a week ago.
Dozens of air strikes rocked the city in the early hours of May 17 followed a wave of attacks from the air on May 16 that Israel said had hit more than 90 targets across Gaza. At the same time, rockets were fired by militants from Gaza toward Israeli cities.
Supporters of Palestine in European cities took to the streets on May 15-16 to protest Israel's military action in the Gaza Strip, as well as pro Israeli supporters did.
