Ukraine: Rosh Hashanah In Uman
Thousands of Hasidism followers from around the world gathered in Uman, about 200 kilometers south of Kyiv in Cherkaskoyio region, to mark Rosh Shan - Jewish New Year. The city is a pilgrimage site for Hasidic Jews to the burial site of Rebbe Nachman of Breslov, a great grandson of the founder of Hasidism. Rosh Hashanah is celebrated on the night of 13 to 14 September 2015. Correspondents of Radio Liberty arrived in Uman before, to see how Jewish worshipers and visitors have fun after the Sabbath (Saturday) - the day of rest, and get ready for the holiday.

This year are 30.000 Hasidims expected to visit Kyiv, they rented a house in the city, occupied hotels and hostels, and some even live in tents.

Shabbat - a day when the Torah ascribes to Jews refrain from any work. They can walk, read scriptures, to communicate with people only. Shabbat is observed from a few minutes before sunset on Friday evening until the appearance of three stars in the sky on Saturday night
